NEW DELHI: All the departments previously handled by Kailash Gahlot will remain with chief minister Atishi, as confirmed by the Delhi chief minister’s Office (CMO) on Sunday. A proposal regarding this transition has been sent to Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.
This comes after Kailash Gahlot, Delhi’s minister of transport, administrative reforms, information & technology, home, and women & child development, tendered his resignation from both the council of ministers and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
In his resignation letter addressed to AAP’s national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, Gahlot expressed his growing dissatisfaction with the party’s shifting priorities. He cited controversies such as the ‘Sheeshmahal’ issue, which he felt had tarnished the party’s image and raised doubts about its core values.
He also criticised the party over shift in priorities, saying, “Instead of fighting for people’s rights, we have increasingly only been fighting for our own political agenda. This has severely crippled our ability to even deliver basic services to the people of Delhi. It is now obvious that real progress for Delhi cannot happen if the Delhi Government spends the majority of its time fighting with the Centre.”
Despite leaving the party, Gahlot expressed his commitment to continue working for the people of Delhi, though he will now do so outside of AAP.
