NEW DELHI: Ina big accusation, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has given target to all its seven MPs in Delhi to create fake voters in New Delhi assembly seat.
“According to sources, the Gaali Galooj Party [BJP] has given targets to its seven MPs to get fake voters made in the New Delhi Legislative Assembly in the next few days. Let’s see how many applications for enrolling new voters come in the next few days. Everyone should keep an eye on this,” Kejriwal said in a Hindi post on X.
“Atishi ji has sought time to meet the chief election commissioner. We hope we will get time soon,” Kejriwal added.
In New Delhi assembly, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal is competing against BJP’s Parvesh Verma and Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit. Kejriwal has maintained a strong electoral record, securing victories in three successive elections from this constituency in 2013, 2015 and 2020.
The row over voters’ list spiraled after the Election Commission published Delhi’s updated electoral roll. The AAP raised concerns about significant voter removals occurring in New Delhi constituency, labelling it as fraudulent activity.
On Monday, chief minister Atishi had also sent a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) requesting an additional verification process for voter removals in New Delhi. The CM highlighted in her letter that according to regulations, the election registration officer (ERO) must conduct personal verification for each removal request when the deletion requests exceed 2 per cent. “These rules have to be followed in this case as more than 2% votes are sought to be deleted in New Delhi. However, it is not being followed,” the letter stated.
Meanwhile, the Delhi BJP countered these accusations by asserting that AAP’s attempts to include ineligible voters had been unsuccessful.
