Kiren Rijiju Claims 80% Muslim Organizations Back Waqf Board Bill Amid Election Campaign | Nagpur News – Times of India

NAGPUR: Nearly 80% Muslim organisations have expressed support for the Waqf Board Bill proposed by the Central govt, said Union minister of minority affairs Kiren Rijiju here on Saturday. The bill aims to streamline management of over 9 lakh waqf board properties across India, ensuring their efficient use for marginalised sections of Muslim community. Rijiju expressed hope the bill would soon be tabled in Parliament, emphasising its potential to significantly benefit poor.
Speaking to reporters during the election campaign in Nagpur, Rijiju highlighted the positive reception of the waqf bill and its focus on equitable resource allocation as part of BJP’s broader outreach efforts.
The minister also took a dig at Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing them of misleading people by falsely claiming BJP intends to amend the Constitution. Rijiju stated Congress had a history of opposing Dr B R Ambedkar during drafting of the Constitution and questioned the party’s commitment to constitutional values.
“Before Congress talks about the Constitution or reservation, they must explain their treatment of Babasaheb Ambedkar. The party opposed Ambedkar’s proposals to grant quotas to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities, which were eventually implemented due to Ambedkar’s efforts,” he said.
Rijiju announced that November 26 will mark the 75th anniversary of the Constitution, with celebrations planned nationwide. He criticised Congress for failing to honour the statute over the decades, despite claims of protecting it.
He further asserted that tribal, Dalit, and minority communities have seen through Congress’s “false narrative” and are increasingly disillusioned with the party. Rijiju dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s remarks during Lok Sabha elections as an attempt to mislead voters, claiming people are aware of Congress’ inconsistencies on key issues.
