KL Rahul all set to end his stint with LSG and join RCB as captain for IPL 2025: Reports

Indian batter KL Rahul is reportedly set to part ways with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) franchise and take on the role of captain for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2025 season, according to several media reports. This potential move marks a significant shift in the IPL landscape, especially given Rahul’s established presence in the league.

KL Rahul to leave LSG ahead of IPL 2025?

During the IPL 2024 season, KL Rahul was embroiled in controversy after a heated exchange with LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka went viral. The intense conversation, captured on video following a loss, sparked widespread speculation about Rahul’s future with the franchise. Rahul has served as LSG’s skipper from IPL 2022 to IPL 2024, but this incident highlighted underlying tensions and set the stage for his impending departure.

KL Rahul‘s leadership experience is extensive. He not only led LSG but also captained Punjab Kings in previous IPL seasons and has donned the captain’s hat at the international level. His potential move to RCB is seen as a strategic and beneficial decision for both parties. As a Bengaluru native, Rahul’s reported return to RCB, a team he was associated with earlier in his career, could resonate well with local fans and bring a new dynamic to the franchise.

RCB, which has consistently been on the lookout for strong leadership to complement their star-studded lineup, would benefit immensely from KL Rahul‘s experience and batting prowess. His familiarity with the team’s culture and his local roots add to the excitement surrounding this potential move.

As IPL 2025 approaches, all eyes will be on this significant development. If the reports hold true, KL Rahul‘s shift to RCB as captain could be a game-changer, both for the franchise aiming for their maiden IPL title and for Rahul, seeking a fresh start.

South African batter Faf du Plessis is the current captain of RCB. He took charge after Virat Kohli stepped down from the position following the IPL 2021 season.
