Kolkata horror: Centre moves SC, accuses Mamata govt of hindering CISF security at RG Kar Hospital | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The Centre on Tuesday filed an application in the Supreme Court regarding the deployment of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel at the RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata where a doctor was brutally raped and murdered on August 9, accusing the West Bengal government of not cooperating in providing logistical support to the security team.
The application highlighted significant challenges faced by the CISF personnel, including inadequate accommodation, lack of security equipment, and insufficient transportation, which the Centre said was hindering their ability to perform their duties effectively.
In its application, the Centre sought a directive for the West Bengal government to fully cooperate with the CISF and comply with a previous Supreme Court order dated August 20.
It added that the Bengal government’s non-cooperation was “unpardonable” and “symptomatic of systemic malaise”.
The Centre further warned that failure to comply could result in contempt proceedings against the state for willful non-compliance.
The Supreme Court had previously ordered the deployment of CISF personnel at the hospital following the rape and murder of a trainee doctor, which led to widespread protests and vandalism at the facility.
The court had expressed serious concerns about the safety of medical professionals and the adequacy of state police responses to the unrest surrounding the incident.
