KOLKATA: Hours after two more videos surfaced purportedly showing “several non-hospital administrative faces” standing at the rape-and-murder spot inside the seminar hall of R G Kar Hospital, leading to another round of questions and speculations, Lalbazar released two photographs to clarify that everyone seen in the two videos had direct links with the probe and had been accounted for.
Police have also claimed that once local Tala police reached the murder spot, the main area was cordoned off at 10.30 am, ruling out the possibility of evidence tampering.
The purported videos and photographs released by Lalbazar and explained in detail by DC (central) Indira Mukherjee were recorded a little after 4.40 pm, once the inquest proceedings got completed between 4.20 pm and 4.40 pm.
In the first photograph released by Kolkata Police, cops marked out multiple people standing at the spot led by commissioner Vineet Goyal. Additional CP (I) Murlidhar Sharma, who was leading the detective department team, is also seen at the spot. The others present there included a videographer of DD, three FSL staffers, the OC of the women grievance cell and a woman officer from Tala PS.
The other photograph released shows a doctor whom cops had kept as their witness during the inquest, a fingerprint expert, AC (DD), a videographer, an FSL expert and additional CP Murlidhar.
DCP Mukherjee said on Friday, “It has been alleged that there are probably some people who were not supposed to be there and there has been some tampering of evidence. We have taken a still from that video… We have been able to identify each and everyone who were there in this picture… Right behind the cordon is the body… We have a videographer from the detective department, commissioner of police, additional CP-1, a lady cop and forensic officials here. All are known to us and identified. There is also a second photograph with another set of people. We have the witness doctor, FSL, fingerprint expert, the ACP of the detective department, the videographer, additional CP-1 and forensic officials. This picture or the video is of the time when the inquest process was just over… At no point did anybody who was not authorised or associated with the investigation enter this area.”
The social media was abuzz about a man “in red shirt”, who social media commentators claimed was “dictating terms to others”. Cops said the man in question was the fingerprint expert who had to pick up fingerprints from all possible spots and corners near the area where the doctor was found dead.
A video of the seminar hall at R G Kar Medical College had first surfaced a couple of days ago, raising many questions.
