Singh’s comments came amid growing outrage over the rape-murder of a trainee woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, which has sparked protests across the nation.
“Mamata Banerjee is the most dangerous politician today who wants to stay in power even by selling out the country…She has no emotions, she has no sensitivity towards women,” said Singh while criticising Banerjee for her handling of the incident.
The 26-year-old doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College on August 9, leading to widespread anger and calls for Banerjee’s resignation by the BJP. The case has escalated into a political battle, with both parties trading accusations.
On Monday, the Supreme Court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file a fresh status report on the case next week. The victim’s mother has also accused the Banerjee of dishonesty regarding financial compensation. “The chief minister is lying… She told us we would receive money and suggested we create something in my daughter’s memory,” the mother said.
Meanwhile, prime accused Sanjay Roy has been arrested in connection with the murder.
Additionally, former principal of the RG Kar medical college Sandip Ghosh, was also arrested on corruption charges on September 2 and remains in CBI custody.
