Lalit Salve, a constable from Beed district, cast his vote for the first time as a male voter during the state assembly elections on Wednesday.
Formerly Lalita, Salve transitioned to a man after undergoing three sex-change surgeries between 2018 and 2020. Previously, he had voted as a woman, but his journey to update his voter ID required securing new documents, including a government gazette, Aadhaar, and PAN cards reflecting his new identity. Salve, now married to Seema and a proud father to a 10-month-old son, expressed joy at fully participating in the democratic process.
“Voting as a male voter affirms my human rights in India,” said Salve. TNN
