HYDERABAD: Kalyan Vamshikar, an advocate associated with the BJP’s legal cell, was stabbed on Tuesday morning by a couple of men who robbed his phone.
The incident took place near the IMax Multiplex, located in the high security zone of the city, just a stone’s throw from the secretariat. Vamshikar was on an early morning stroll accompanied by his pet dog when he was attacked, police officers said. Practising in the city courts, the victim dealt mostly with cases registered against the BJP leaders and activists.
Vamshikar, 48, a resident of Khairatabad, suffered stab injuries on the left side of his chest and on the left hand and he is now out of danger. Khairatabad police officials say they have identified the suspects based on clues from CCTV cameras and are in the process of arresting the accused.
According to police officials, Vamshikar was walking on the side of the road near IMax as part of his daily routine. Two persons riding a black scooter approached him and started a conversation in Hindi, inquiring about his pet dog.
One of them pulled out a knife and threatened Vamshikar, demanding that he hand over his phone. As he resisted, a scuffle ensued during which the suspect stabbed him, took his phone and sped away.
Other morning walkers rushed him to a hospital and also alerted the police.
The attack looks like a clear cut robbery, but all angles are being investigated. “Once Vamshikar is discharged from hospital, he might be able to give more details about the incident,” added the official.
BJP legal cell members who visited Kalyan at the hospital demanded immediate arrest of accused. “It is an act by those who have nursed a grudge against him and police did not provide him protection despite him being under threat,” said a member of the cell.
