Kharge accused the Modi government of not delivering on its pre-election commitments within the first 100 days, calling the administration indecisive and suggesting that the nation already faces the repercussions of inaction.
“Narendra Modi ji, even before the elections, you had loudly trumpeted the 100-day agenda. 95 days are over, your coalition government is vacillating,” Kharge said in a post on X.
Kharge alleged that the government’s initial measures, particularly the national budget, had adversely affected the poorest and the middle class. Kharge highlighted the increasing economic hardship.
“Let’s do a little recap — Your government brought an anti-people Budget to break the backbone of the poor and middle class. Terrorist attacks took place in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in Jammu, where many bravehearts of the Indian Army were martyred,” the Congress chief said.
Targeting the government over situation in Manipur, Kharge said, “It has been 16 months, Manipur is burning and Pradhan Mantri ji, you have no time to even look at the state,”
Kharge further criticised the government’s handling of various scandals, from the alleged “Modi-Adani mega scam” to the NEET exam paper leaks and rising unemployment. He also questioned the “quality of infrastructure projects” the government has claimed credit for, including the new Parliament building, Lord Ram Temple in Ayodhya, and various expressways and tunnels. Kharge said that even railway security is at risk, and cities across the country are flooded without adequate relief from the states.
The Congress president accused the government of yielding to pressure from the opposition, citing the handover of the Waqf Bill to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) and an alleged reversal on the Constitution regarding lateral entry.
Kharge questioned the clarity of the government’s 100-day agenda, saying, “No one knows what your agenda was, but in 95 days, the country is suffering the terrible consequences of your inactions!”
His comments come shortly after he downplayed the BJP’s electoral performance in J&K and speculated that an additional 20 seats for the opposition INDIA bloc in the Lok Sabha would have significantly changed the political landscape, also hinting that several ‘BJP leaders would be in jail’. Kharge’s remarks elicited a strong response from the BJP, with the ruling party accusing Congress of having a ‘dictatorial mentality’.
