KANPUR: Five doctors from Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences, Saifai, lost their lives in a road accident on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway in Kannauj during the early hours of Wednesday. The incident occurred when their vehicle collided with a truck on the expressway. The doctors were returning after attending a colleague’s wedding celebration in Lucknow.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences and directed officials to assess the situation at the crash site.
According to Superintendent of Police Kannauj, Amit Kumar Anand, the incident occurred at the 196-kilometre marker within the Tirwa police station limits. “The vehicle, carrying six people, was en route to Agra from Lucknow. The Tirwa police transported all six occupants of the car to Government Medical College Tirwa, where hospital staff declared five occupants deceased. One individual is currently undergoing treatment at the facility,” said Anand.
The authorities have transferred the deceased to the mortuary and initiated legal proceedings.
The doctors who lost their lives have been identified as Dr. Aniruddh Verma, Dr. Santosh Kumar Maurya, Dr. Jaiveer Singh, Dr. Arun Kumar, and Dr. Nardev.
All five medical professionals, employed at Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences, Saifai, died on the spot. Their untimely demise has caused profound grief at Saifai Medical University, where they were respected members of the staff.
