NEW DELHI: Young India wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh pulled off an absolute stunner to get rid of Pakistan’s Fatima Sana in the Women’s T20 World Cup marquee clash in Dubai on Sunday.
Showcasing terrific reflexes and athleticism, Ghosh, standing up to leg-spinner Asha Sobhana, dived to her right, pulling off a one-handed blinder.
The incident took place on the final ball of the 14th over when a dangerous Fatima attempted a slog-sweep off an Asha delivery.
With the ball getting a nice spin and bounce, it scratched the outside-edge of Fatima’s and looked like going further away. However, Ghosh put her right hand out and the ball just stuck into her glove, leaving batter Fatima and commentators in complete disbelief.
Richa had a sub-par outing behind the stumps in the opener against New Zealand where she had dropped a sitter. But on Sunday, she redeemed herself with a miraculous catch and was also involved in a stumping of opener Muneeba Ali.
In India’s second Group A clash of the T20 World Cup, bowlers starred as Pakistan were restricted to a lowly 105 for 8 after they opted to bat first.
While Arundhati Reddy picked up three wickets, Shreyanka Patil grabbed a couple. Asha, Deepti Sharma and Renuka Thakur grabbed a wicket apiece for the Indian side.
For Pakistan, Nida Dar (28) was the top scorer as they lost six batters on single-digit scores.
Earlier, favourites India lost their opener against the Kiwis by 58 runs and are in a must-win situation against Pakistan.
