Man, 25, takes clothes off, tries to molest doctor at Tamil Nadu hospital | India News – Times of India

COIMBATORE: A 25-year-old man tried to molest a woman house surgeon in Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Wednesday night.
The accused, identified as Mayank Galar of Hoshangabad in Madhya Pradesh, was arrested on Thursday and booked under section 74 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhit (assault or use of criminal force against a woman with the intention to outrage her modesty, punishable with a jail term not less than one year, and extendable up to five years) and section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act.
The incident occurred around 9pm, when the house surgeon went to take her bike parked near the CMCH dean’s office. The accused removed his pants and tried to molest her, but the doctor pushed him and ran to her hostel on the hospital premises, while Galar fled the spot. Other house surgeons immediately alerted the hospital’s security guards, who caught Galar at the hospital’s casualty ward around 1 am, and later handed him over to police.
Based on a complaint lodged by the resident medical officer of CMCH, an FIR was registered. More than 150 house surgeons and postgraduate medical students gathered in front of the dean’s office and protested over the molestation attempt on Thursday. They demanded adequate security and a night patrol team on the hospital premises. CMCH dean A Nirmala met the house surgeons and assured them that all their demands would be fulfilled soon.
“There is a CCTV camera where the incident occurred, but the camera is not working. Likewise, most of the surveillance cameras are not functioning on the campus. There are not enough restroom facilities for house surgeons at the workplace due to which we are forced to return to our hostel rooms,” a house surgeon said.
