JAIPUR: The city police arrested a 44-year-old man working as nursing staff at a private hospital in New Delhi from Greater Noida on Thursday. He is accused of harassing a 22-year-old US woman during a wedding function at the Chomu Palace Hotel last week.
SHO (Chomu) Pradeep Sharma said that the accused was identified as Ashish Mohan Das (44), a native of Madhubhani in Bihar, and currently living in Greater Noida, working in the nursing staff of a private hospital in New Delhi.
“He came with his family to attend a wedding organised by an NRI family on Dec 21. The accused harassed the US woman, who is the bride’s friend, during one of the wedding functions in the same hotel. The arrested man is a relative of the bride’s family,” Sharma said.
The SHO said that soon after the woman raised an alarm, the accused switched his mobile phone off and fled from the hotel. Sources said that the woman described her ordeal, following which the bride’s family filed an FIR at the Chomu police station on Dec 23. The FIR was registered under BNS Sections 75 (2) (physical contact and advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures) and 78 (Stalking).
“We did not have identification of the accused when the complaint first came in, so we scanned CCTVs of the hotel where the party was happening. After technical investigation of CCTVs and other digital trails, we sent a team that arrested the accused,” Sharma said.
Sources said that the accused harassed the woman during a musical and dance function. “The girl got scared after the incident and confided in her friend who then told others about it, following which the police were informed. We constituted a team under the leadership of ACP (Chomu) Ashok Chouhan and SHO Pradeep Sharma,” said a senior official, adding that the accused is being interrogated and he is likely to be taken to the crime scene for spot verification.
