Man thrashed by right-wingers, cops accuse him of molestation | India News – Times of India

BAREILLY/PILIBHIT: A man, in his 20s, was allegedly brutally beaten by a right-wing activist identified as Sanjay Mishra and his associates in Puranpur town of Pilibhit on the night of Sept 1, and when the family of the victim, Changez Khan, approached local police, they claimed the cops slapped charges of molestation against Khan, instead of taking action against Mishra and the other attackers.
Khan, currently hospitalised, said on Thursday, “I was on my way home when a friend, Anmol, asked me to meet him in Pankaj Colony. While I was having a cold drink, around 50 men led by Sanjay Mishra, brutally attacked me. They kidnapped me in a car, stabbed me in the head and stomach, and left me with a fractured leg and a broken finger. I’m suffering from breathing difficulties now.” Two days after the attack, an FIR was registered against Khan for “molesting a woman”. The next day, a disturbing video began circulating on social media purportedly of Mishra and his men tearing Khan’s clothes, beating him with batons and dragging him in the middle of the road.
Police on Thursday then lodged an FIR at Puranpur against four named persons, including Mishra, and “10 unidentified persons” under BNS sections 191-2 (rioting), 191-3 (rioting with deadly weapons), 190 (offence committed in prosecution of common object), 109 (attempt to murder), 140-1 (abduction), 351-3 (voluntarily causing hurt), 309-4 (robbery) and 324-4 (mischief causing damage). No accused was arrested till the time of filing the report.
On why no case was registered on the complaint filed by Khan on Sept 1, the SP, Avinash Pandey, said the allegations levelled in the complaint seemed to be “exaggerated” and its “authenticity” had to be examined.
The SP added: “Puranpur circle officer (CO) Vishal Chaudhary, and the SHO were also on leave. The complainant was asked by the SHO to visit the police station on Sept 2 but he expressed his helplessness due to his brother’s illness. He appeared before the police at a later stage.”
Khan’s elder brother Amjad said, “My brother is a post-graduate and currently works as an AC technician. He has never indulged in any criminal activity. His friend, Anmol, was among the perpetrators. We want police to investigate and find out the truth. We don’t have any clue about the woman who had registered an FIR against my brother. In the complaint, she mentioned the incident was reported a month ago. It seems someone is trying to frame my brother.”
