Masters Of ‘Hell in a Cell’: How The Undertaker and Triple H Revolutionized The Devil’s Playground | WWE News – Times of India

The hellacious structure of ‘Hell in a Cell’ is one of the most unforgiving stipulations that you can add in a WWE match. After the CM Punk vs Drew Mcintyre match was announced to be a Hell in a Cell match by raw GM Adam Pearce, for the returning Bad Blood PLE, everyone is reminded of the brutal Hell in a Cell matches that we have witnessed over the last three decades.
Now, if you talk about Hell in a Cell, there are only two names in WWE that come to your mind, The Undertaker and current CCO of the company, Triple H. Both the legends had an expertise in handling the steel structure and securing a win against them inside ‘Hell in a Cell’ was almost impossible.
So, here are five matches which prove that Triple H and Undertaker were the real revolutionaries of the “Hell in a Cell”
1.The Undertaker vs Mankind(King of the Ring 1998)
Whenever we think about the most dangerous moments of Hell in a Cell history, two moments in this match top it all. This match was infamous because of Mankind’s daredevilry and heart. The beginning of the match itself was gruesome, as Mankind was thrown off the top of the cell, through the announce table beneath. Afterwards, he was even Chockslam’d from the top of the cell to the ring. Ultimately, the Dead Man won the match, but not before Mankind( Mick Foley) gave it his all to make it a fantastic contest.
2. Triple H vs Shawn Michaels (Bad Blood 2004)
Since we are nearing the return of the ‘Bad Blood’ PLE, it is only fitting to recall the most gruesome match of the Bad Blood history. After the most hate-filled feud between two superstars of WWE continued for almost 2 years, this massive rivalry between two former best friends culminated in a bloody Hell in a Cell bout. Both the superstars gave it their all and were just not ready to give up at any cost. After battling for almost 50 minutes, it was “The Game” that came on top(only marginally). Despite being a slow burner, it is one of the ‘Classics’ of WWE history.
3. The Undertaker vs Edge (SummerSlam 2008)
This Hell in a Cell match marked the end of the year long rivalry between “The Phenom” and The “Rated R Superstar”. This was also the first Hell in a Cell match in the ‘PG Era’. This match was full of dangerous spots, as a plethora of weapons and dangerous moves were exploited that night. The contest between two former World Champions was a treat to watch for hard core extreme wrestling fans, with bloodshed everywhere. After a fearsome battle, The Undertaker beat Edge to stamp his authority as the real master of The Hell in a Cell contests.
4. Triple H vs Cactus Jack(aka Mick Foley and Mankind 2000)
One of the most iconic Hell in a Cell matches of the history, this match was also one of the reasons that started the downfall of Mick Foley’s career. This match was bloody, full of grit and everything dangerous about a Hell in a Cell match. It had massive Spots, bloodshed and violence at its peak. Foley was once again thrown off the top of the ‘Hell in a Cell’ cage, like he was thrown by The Undertaker back in 1998(When Foley was known as Mankind). Until 2012, this was the best Hell in a Cell match for The Game, Triple H.
5. Triple H vs The Undertaker (WrestleMania 28)
This match is highly regarded as not just the best Hell in a Cell match, but also one of the most well fought and well executed matches of all time. Without being bloody and gory, this match lived up to all the hype that was built up before the match with three of the biggest legends involved in it. With 2 biggest Hell in a Cell stars in it, the emotional background of this match was so high that it made all the three superstars involved in it emotional, at the end of it. With Shawn Michaels chosen as the special guest referee inside the unforgiving structure, people thought that the balance had tilted in Triple H’s favour, but not to be, as it turned out to be one of the most gruesome battles that you could see in WWE. Undertaker at the end, managed to defend his streak of Wrestlemanias and it marked the end of an era
