AGRA: A 23-year-old woman from Mathura was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly plotting her husband’s murder over a marital dispute. Police said she sold her jewellery and paid Rs 8 lakh to her lover, who hired contract killers, and the 28-year-old man was shot dead outside his shop in Mathura on Nov 22.
SSP (Mathura) Shailesh Kumar Pandey said, “Umesh Kumar and wife Neha (name changed) were involved in disputes for many days, and used to often fight. They were married about two years ago. She later grew closer to one Pawan Kumar (25), a resident of Tarauli Sumali under Chatta limits in Mathura. The woman, along with three others, has been arrested and charged under sections of murder.”
A cop, privy to the case, added, “Tired of frequent fights, the woman conspired with Pawan to eliminate her husband, and gave a Rs 8 lakh contract to Ajay Singh and Kunal Singh, both locals. She gave gold and silver jewellery to Pawan, who sold a part of it and paid Rs 17,000 in advance. Around 11pm on Friday, Ajay and Kunal — after a recce — reached Umesh’s house and knocked on the door asking for ‘pan masala’ from his shop, situated next door. When Umesh moved towards his shop, Ajay shot at him and fled with Kunal on a bike. They later informed Pawan and the woman about the task over the phone.”
The cop said there were several aborted attempts by the killers in the past and they sought assistance from Pawan and the woman. On Nov 18, the woman went to her maternal home. There, she was in constant touch with her husband using her brother Nishu’s mobile phone while providing his location to the killers. Upon receiving precise coordinates, the bike-borne assailants arrived near his house at 10:30pm on Friday and he was killed about 30 minutes later.
Police arrested one of the suspected shooters after an encounter on Monday, during which he was injured. Two of his accomplices were also held while trying to flee. Three illegal weapons were recovered. On the basis of available evidence, the victim’s wife was later arrested.
SHO (highway) inspector Anand Kumar Shahi said the contract killers got the woman to record a video, in which she was made to declare that “she planned her husband’s murder”. The purported video proved helpful for the investigators. The cops also got the CDR (call detail records) of the woman and her brother’s phone numbers, which further established their involvement in the murder.
During interrogation, the woman claimed she was fed up with her husband as he used to physically abuse her, police added.
