The investigation into the alleged sexual misconduct of Matt Gaetz that made him withdraw his nomination as the attorney general of the incoming Donald Trump administration has concluded and the findings have leaked from a ‘damning draft’ of the report. Just the News which obtained a copy of the 37-page document reported that Matt Gatez was allegedly found to have used illegal drugs like cocaine and ecstasy while paying for sex with multiple women including a 17-year-old with whom he had sex in front of other people.
There is substantial evidence that Representative Gaetz violated House Rules and other standards of conduct prohibiting prostitution, statutory rape, illicit drug use, impermissible gifts, special favors or privileges, and obstruction of Congress, the report said.
But the report also found that Gaez did not violate sex trafficking laws. The 17-year-old admitted that she did not inform Gaetz that she was under 18 at that time and nor did Gaetz ask her age.
“From 2017 to 2020, Representative Gaetz made tens of thousands of dollars in payments to women that the Committee determined were likely in connection with sexual activity and/or drug use,” the report said.
Row over Matt Gaetz and ethics committee report
Soon after Matt Gaetz was named as the attorney general pick of the Donald Trump administration, Gatez resigned from Comgress stopping the possibility of the ethics committee report being published. Because once he ceases to be a Congress member, the House panel does not have any jurisdiction to investigate him or publish the any report. Meanwhile, he had to withdraw his name from the nomination as senate confirmation pending the investigation seemed difficult.
There was a deadlock over whether the report would be published or not but then there was a secret vote which came in favor of publishing the report into Gaetz’s misconduct.
