The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued guidelines for medical colleges that aim to introduce new postgraduate (PG) qualifications. These guidelines require institutions to consult with the relevant medical boards and follow a structured application process, ensuring that all necessary steps, including fee submissions, are properly completed.
For colleges interested in offering new postgraduate courses like MD, MS, DM, MCh, PDF, PDCC, or six-year DM/MCh programs, the first step is to consult the appropriate board. This consultation is essential to ensure that the proposed qualifications meet the required standards. Once approval or guidance is received from the board, the institution can move forward with submitting a formal proposal, including the necessary fees.
As per the National Medical Commission (Recognition of Medical Qualification) Regulations, 2023, medical institutions that already offer undergraduate or postgraduate programs can apply for the inclusion of new qualifications not yet listed in the official NMC database. This rule applies to all new qualifications in various specialties.
Any medical college looking to introduce a new postgraduate qualification that is not listed under Annexures I to VI of the Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations-2023 must submit an official application through the NMC website. Along with the application, a non-refundable fee of ₹2,50,000 plus 18% GST must be paid for each qualification. Failure to submit the proper format or fee will result in the application being rejected.
