Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates’ son-in-law to compete in Paris Olympics 2024: Here’s the country he will represent and more – Times of India

Nayel Nassar, the husband of tech billionaire Bill Gates‘ eldest daughter Jennifer, is set to represent Egypt in the equestrian jumping event at the Paris Olympics. The Egyptian-American equestrian has previously competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, achieving 16th and 24th positions in the team and individual events, respectively. Nassar’s participation in the Paris Olympics comes as his wife, Jennifer Gates, prepares to welcome their second child. The couple married in 2021 and welcomed their first child in 2023.
Nassar began his equestrian career at a young age, participating in international competitions since his teens. His inclusion in the Egyptian Olympic team highlights the growing influence of equestrian sports in the country.
Melinda Gates, Jennifer’s mother, has expressed her support for Nassar on social media, wishing him success in the upcoming Olympics. In an Instagram post, the philanthropist shared Nassar’s photo and wrote: “So excited to watch you compete at the Olympics, @nayelnassar! I’m rooting for you.”

The Gates family has been in the public eye following the high-profile divorce of Bill and Melinda Gates in 2022. Despite the separation, the former couple continues to co-parent their three children.

Nayel Nassar’s Olympics participation faces criticism

According to a report by EssentiallySports, Nassar’s participation has been overshadowed by controversy surrounding the size of his support team. A ten-person delegation accompanying the athlete to Paris has sparked public outrage, with many questioning the necessity of such a large entourage at public expense.
While the Egyptian Equestrian Federation has denied any financial support for Nassar or his team, claiming they covered all expenses, the controversy continues to simmer.
Despite the off-field drama, Nassar remains focused on his performance in the equestrian competition. A seasoned athlete with previous Olympic experience, he aims to clinch his first Olympic medal in Paris.
Nassar’s journey to the Olympics has been marked by significant achievements, including a bronze medal at the Winter Equestrian Festival and a victory at the CSIO4*-W Nations Cup of Rabat.
