NEW DELHI: Former TMC MP and actor Mimi Chakraborty claimed on Tuesday that she has been receiving rape threats following her posts related to the ongoing protests over the rape-murder incident at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
Chakraborty took to the social media platform X to share screenshots of the threatening comments she received on her Instagram post.
“And we are demanding justice for women, right? These are just a few of them, where rape threats have been normalised by venomous men hiding in the crowd, pretending to stand by women. What kind of upbringing and education permits this,” she wrote on ‘X’.
Chakraborty, who served as the MP of Jadavpur Lok Sabha constituency from 2019 to 2024, has filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Division of the Kolkata Police, sharing screenshots of two rape threats she received on social media.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the case.
A postgraduate trainee doctor was raped and murdered on August 9 while on duty at RG Kar Medical College, sparking nationwide strikes and protests by the medical community.
