Veteran India pacer Mohammed Shami has not been included in the Bengal Ranji squad and that has sparked speculations over his fitness ahead of the Tests vs NZ. The strange bit here is that there is no update on Shami’s fitness, which forces everyone to believe that he is not 100 per cent fit. Does that mean he misses out during the Tests versus New Zealand? As things stand, that is how it will be – he may end up missing the Tests versus NZ. While it will be a big setback for the side ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, it would also mean others could get an opportunity. The likes of Akash Deep and Mayank Yadav would be in the reckoning if Shami is unavailable. Shami, who last featured in the 2023 ODI World Cup final, has been recovering from a surgery performed earlier this year.
