NEW DELHI: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in his annual Vijaydashmi speech on Saturday included Thakur Anukul Chandra, founder of Satsang, a movement for promoting meditation and a spiritual sect with a large following in eastern India, into Sangh’s “hall of fame” listing him alongside tribal icon Birsa Munda and others who have made significant contributions to national life but don’t figure in the mainstream catalogue of nation builders.
Bhagwat who had in his last Vijaydashmi speech, an important date in Sangh’s annual calendar, recalled the contribution of Gond queen Maharani Durgavati, announced that this year’s focus was on Ahilyabai Holkar- the Maratha queen who was a good general, a good administrator and left a mark across the nation by rebuilding Hindu shrines which were destroyed during the medieval period.
Ahilyabai Holkar‘s 320th birth anniversary is being observed this year.
