Morne Morkel Not Yet on Board! Ex-all-Rounder May Join India as Bowling Coach for SL Tour | Reports

Team India is all set to embark on their journey to Sri Lanka for a white-ball tour. Two Asian Giants will lock horns on a cricket pitch as the Men in Blue are set to function under a new coaching regime. With Gautam Gambhir all set to begin his journey as the head coach, it will be a new challenge for the side. A lot of chatter has been taking place over the potential coaching staff under Gambhir’s regime, and some top names have been under consideration. However, the team’s potential bowling coach, Morne Morkel, may not arrive for Gambhir’s first assignment yet, and a former India leg-spinner could be elected for the Sri Lanka series.

Former India All-Rounder to Join Team India Coaching Staff in Sri Lanka as Morne Morkel Likely to Miss White-Ball Series | Reports

Speculations have been intense over Team India’s coaching staff under Gautam Gambhir‘s regime as the team travels to Sri Lanka for a white-ball series. Names like Abhishek Nayar, Ryan ten Doeschate, Jonty Rhodes, and more have been under consideration, as well as Morne Morkel. The former South African bowler has been under consideration and seems to be a lock as the bowling coach. However, he may not be a part of the upcoming Sri Lanka tour, if reports are to be believed.

Gambhir has been rooting for Morne Morkel to be selected for the coaching staff, as he is familiar with his work. But reports from Cricbuzz suggest that the former South African bowler has returned to Pretoria to attend to his unwell father. In the meantime, the management has picked a former India leg-spinning all-rounder. Sairaj Bahutule will travel to Sri Lanka alongside the Men in Blue.

Bahutule was picked over the NCA bowling coach Troy Cooley as the Sri Lankan pitches are prone to spin, making the Indian leg-spinning all-rounder an ideal choice for the situation. An official reveal for the coaching staff under Coach Gautam Gambhir is yet to be announced, and they could do it before the Men in Blue jets off for the white-ball series to the Island Nation.
