NEW DELHI: The suicide of an executive from an automobile company has raised alarm, especially against the backdrop of a bitter family court dispute.
It has been claimed that relentless pressure from his wife and in-laws pushed him to this extreme decision. They allegedly demanded Rs 3 crore to drop the legal battles against him, as well as an additional Rs 30 lakh for permission to visit his son.
Before his death, Atul recorded a message, which has since gone viral, triggering a strong debate online about men’s rights and mental health.
“It is better for me to end my life, as the money I earn only strengthens my enemies. The same money will be used to destroy me, and this cycle will keep repeating. With my own money, which I pay in taxes, the courts and police system will torment me and my family, along with others. The flow of this value should be stopped. Anyway, they (in-laws) have been suggesting I take my own life,” Atul said.
While appealing to the authorities to ensure that his wife and in-laws are not allowed anywhere near his body, Atul stated that his last rites should not be completed till his harassers are punished.
“Despite all these, if the accused are allowed to go scot-free, just dump my ashes into a gutter near the court. This way, I can know how life is valued in this country,” he said, apologising to his parents for not being there to take care of them in their old age.
