‘New move by Fadnavis’: Anil Deshmukh as ex-cop Sachin Waze levels fresh bribery allegations against him | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Dismissed Mumbai Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Waze leveled fresh allegations against former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh, claiming to have submitted evidence of bribes taken by him. Waze’s claims prompted a response from Deshmukh, who alleged that the accusations were a political maneuver by deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.
NCP (SP) and Congress have criticized Waze’s allegations as politically motivated, questioning his credibility and the circumstances under which he was allowed to speak to the media.
Waze on Friday said that he has informed Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis of evidence related to alleged bribes taken by former home minister Anil Deshmukh. Waze said that he has submitted a letter to Fadnavis, detailing evidence and naming additional individuals involved.
He maintained that money was channeled through Deshmukh’s personal assistant and that the CBI possesses evidence of these transactions.
In 2021, Deshmukh stepped down from his role as home minister following accusations that he instructed police officers to extort Rs 100 crore per month from bars and restaurants.
Deshmukh responded to Waze’s allegations by claiming that the move was orchestrated by Fadnavis, accusing him of using Waze to target him politically. He alleged that Fadnavis had previously pressured him to sign affidavits against other political figures, including Uddhav Thackeray and Aaditya Thackeray.
“What Sachin Waze spoke is a new move by Devendra Fadnavis, as a few days back, I had levelled allegations against Fadnavis about how he had three years back given a proposal to me to implicate Uddhav Thackeray and Aditya Thackeray”, Deshmukh said.
“Fadnavis may not be knowing that the Bombay high court spoke about Sachin Waze that he has a criminal background. He was arrested in two murder cases and is not a person who can be trusted,” he said.
Fadnavis, who is in charge of the home department, assured a thorough investigation into the allegations and denied any wrongdoing. As he has been away from Mumbai, Fadnavis said that he has not yet reviewed the letter sent by Waze, further adding that a comprehensive investigation will be conducted.
“I learnt about it (Waze’s claim) from the media. Media reported that Sachin Waze had sent me a letter. I have not yet seen the letter as I have been in Nagpur for the last two days. I will find out if such a letter is received and respond. We would certainly conduct a proper inquiry into emerging (disclosures),” Fadnavis told reporters.
Congress and NCP (SP) leaders dismissed Waze’s claims as politically motivated.
NCP (SP) spokesperson Mahesh Tapase pointed out that Waze had previously denied such allegations during his testimony to the Chandiwal Commission. Tapase questioned Waze’s credibility and suggested that his statements were driven by political agendas.
Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe questioned how Waze was allowed to communicate with the media while in custody and called for the suspension of the responsible police officers. Londhe argued that Waze’s statements serve as a distraction from the real issues and demanded an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his media interactions.
