NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday carried out searches at 19 locations across seven states and a Union territory, in a case relating to the conspiracy by Jaish e Mohammed to radicalise and recruit youths in India for carrying out terrorist acts across the country.
According to an NIA spokesperson, several incriminating documents, electronic devices including mobile phones, pen drives, CDs, hard disks etc. were seized during the searches carried out at multiple locations in the states of Assam, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Rajasthan and Gujarat as well as the Union territory of J&K.
The searches covered the premises of suspects and close aides of an accused Sheikh Sultan Salah Uddin Ayubi @Ayubi, a Jaish-e-Mohammad operative who was arrested on account of his incriminatory role in the case. Ayubi was taken into custody in October this year for disseminating propaganda material associated with JeM, and radicalising and recruiting youth into the Jamaat outfit inspired by JeM.
The locations searched on Thursday included Goalpara in Assam; Aurangabad, Mumbai and Amravati in Maharashtra; Jhansi, Bareilly, Deoband and Saharanpur in UP; Sitamarhi in Bihar; Hooghly in West Bengal; Dungarpur in Rajasthan; Mehsana in Gujarat; and Baramulla, Reasi, Budgam, Anantnag in the UT of J&K.
