Nicholas Pooran has reportedly signed with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. As per Cricbuzz, the 29-year-old visited the RPSG House in Kolkata to meet owner Sanjiv Goenka and finalise the deal.
Pooran is set to be the primary retention for the franchise, with a salary of Rs 18 crore. This makes him the first formal signing of the upcoming IPL season. His previous auction price was Rs 16 crore when LSG acquired him in 2023 after being released by the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
An LSG official highlighted Pooran’s versatility and positive mindset as key reasons for his signing, saying, “Pooran is committed to LSG, possesses a winning mindset, thinks deep and above all he is adaptable to the batting order and any match situation.”
In the last IPL season, Pooran scored 499 runs, including three half-centuries, 35 fours, and 36 sixes, proving to be one of the franchise’s top performers. Additionally, his skills as a wicketkeeper add value to the team.
As Times of India had already reported, LSG have decided not to retain KL Rahul and will keep four other players: Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav, Ayush Badoni, and Mohsin Khan. The Super Giants will enter the auction with a remaining purse of Rs 69 crore, having spent Rs 51 crore on their retentions.
This budget will allow them to recruit at least 15 more players to form a strong team for the upcoming season.
