Nikki Bella Files for Divorce from Artem Chigvintsev After Domestic Violence Arrest | WWE News – Times of India

WWE Hall of Famer Nikki Garcia aka Nikki Bella recently made the headlines following the arrest of her husband Artem Chigvintsev on charges of domestic violence. Reports soon began flooding in that the Bella Twin is seeking a divorce lawyer and is heading towards legal separation. She filed for divorce on September 11, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Chigvintsev was arrested on August 29 this year and was later released on a bail of $25,000.

A recent report by Entertainment Tonight has further stated that it was her twin sister Brie who had encouraged Nikki Garcia to leave the marriage. As reported earlier, the couple are living separately and neither have come forward to make any official statements regarding the matter.

Nikki Bella is “scared and rattled,” reveals reliable source

Entertainment Tonight reports that according to a source closer to the Bella Twins, Brie encouraged her sister to initiate a divorce quoting, “any sort of violence does not fly.” The sources state that Brie is deeply concerned about Nikki and her son Matteo’s well being. ET further reported that Nikki Garcia is seeking full legal and physical custody of their four-year-old son Matteo with Artem only being granted visitation rights.

Additionally, Garcia has reportedly also asked the court to terminate all spousal support. For reference, Garcia has an estimated net worth of around $8 million, which is more than Chigvintsev’s $6 million. Since the couple live in California, state law asserts that an abuser may be disqualified from receiving alimony from their victim, if the charges are proven and there is documented conviction. The NAA County District Attorney’s office is currently reviewing their case.
The sources ET spoke to, revealed that Garcia was “scared and rattled” following the arrest and is now living with her son Matteo away from Chigvintsev. The sources also said that Chigvintsev “feels unprepared to deal with everything coming his way.”
Following the arrest, a representative of Garcia had issued an official statement urging, “This is a private matter, and Nikki asks for privacy for her and her family at this time.” No further updates regarding the divorce proceedings have been made public at the moment.
