Ola Electric Mobility made its stock exchange debut today (August 9). Ola’s Initial Public Offering (IPO) is the first by an electric vehicle maker. The listing offers a fresh issue of up to Rs 5,500 crore and an Offer-for-Sale (OFS) of up to 8,49,41,997 equity shares. The company is looking to use Rs 1,600 crore from the fresh fund on research and product development, another Rs 800 crore will be deployed to repay debts and Rs 350 crore for organic growth initiatives.
According to Ola Electric Mobility Ltd (OEML) prospectus, the company plans to utilise Rs 1,227.6 crore out of the proceeds of its Rs 5,500-crore public issue on capacity expansion of its cell manufacturing plant to 6.4 GWh from 5 GWh.
The listing ceremony was attended by CEO Bhavish Aggarwal and other senior executives of the company. Aggarwal’s wife Rajalakshmi Aggarwal rang the symbolic listing bell. In a picture shared by Aggarwal on social media platform X (earlier Twitter), the Ola founder and his wife are both dressed in traditional attire. Bhavish is wearing a Kurta Pyjama, with his hair tied back in a ponytail, while his wife is in a Yellow Saree. Rajalakshmi Aggarwal, who leads the Ola Foundation, is known for not making too many public appearances.

What Ola CEO said on the listing

Ola CEO shared the bell-ringing ceremony picture on X, formerly Twitter. “The importance of today, this moment is finally sinking in. It felt like a process till yesterday – where we did our work put in our time and made India one of the largest EV 2W markets. Our hard work has paid off and the world recognises that.
But today it feels like an important duty, a responsibility to double down on our aspirations and to build the country of our dreams. To be dedicated and faithful custodians of public money and faith.
Our destination is still far ahead and we didn’t come this far, to just come this far.
Jai Hind!”
Rajalakshmi too retweeted Bhavish’s post, which has since garnered more than 90,000 views.
