Omar Abdullah: BJP’s ‘mishandling’ revived terrorism in Jammu | India News – Times of India

Omar Abdullah, vice president of the National Conference (NC), accused the BJP of “mishandling” the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, claiming it has led to the revival of terrorism in what was once a peaceful Jammu. Speaking at an election rally in Kishtwar for the upcoming assembly elections in J&K, Abdullah criticised the “double-engine” BJP government, stating that it has only worsened people’s problems, caused destruction, and spread disappointment.
“Nobody in Jammu and Kashmir is ready to praise the government for even a single thing,” he asserted. Abdullah promised that the NC and its coalition partner Congress would restore peace in the region once they form the next government. The two parties have sealed a deal for a pre-poll alliance in J&K.
The NC vice president Omar Abdullah accused the BJP of reviving terrorism in Jammu through intimidation and threats. “They spread rumours that terrorism will return if the NC-Congress coalition comes to power,” he said, reminding Union ministers that “Jammu was made free of militancy during my tenure.”
Abdullah claimed terrorism has resurfaced in several areas like Chenab Valley, Pir Panjal, Udhampur, Reasi, Jammu, Kathua, and Samba over the past five years and asked, “Show me one district in Jammu where our brave soldiers are not being targeted.”
Reacting to home minister Amit Shah‘s claim, Omar Abdullah said, “We are facing the consequences of the BJP’s missteps and failures, which have led to the revival of militancy in otherwise peaceful areas.”
Omar Abdullah assured the people of Jammu that the NC-Congress alliance would rid the region of terrorism if it came to power, stating, “The time has come to show the door to the BJP, which has been in power for too long.” Speaking in support of coalition candidate Puja Thakur, he criticised the BJP’s earlier alliance with the PDP and its governance through Raj Bhawan, claiming it has only brought problems, destruction, and disappointment.
Abdullah pointed out that the NC does not seek votes based on religion, as “everyone suffers from unemployment, rising bills, and lack of basic services.” He promised that an NC-Congress government would fulfil its promises and provide relief to the people.
