Palm Beach Road mishap: 4-year-old girl critical, kin grapple to pay for surgery
A four-year-old girl is in critical condition and in urgent need of surgery after a drunk driver crashed into her family’s car on Palm Beach Road. The accident killed her father and injured her mother.

NAVI MUMBAI: Four-year-old Ananya Pednekar, is critical in the ICU at Apollo Hospital, Belapur, after the SUV driven by a drunk youth crashed into the rear end of the car she was travelling in with her parents along Palm Beach Road on Friday morning.
She is in urgent need of surgery for her fractured shoulders and multiple grievous injuries on her face, informed Brahmanand Naikwadi, Senior Inspector of Nerul Police Station.
Inspector Naikwadi said, “The hospital has raised a billing of around Rs 20 lakh for Ananya’s surgery. Her father, Manish Pednekar (40), was killed in the mishap and her mother, Sneha (34) sustained minor injuries, is undergoing treatment at Dr DY Patil Hospital, Nerul. Ananya’s paternal uncle, Rajesh Pednekar (42), residing in Vikhroli, has managed to deposit Rs 2 lakh for Ananya’s medical treatment at the hospital. Ananya belongs to a middle-class family, wherein her deceased father, who worked for a private firm, was jobless for the past two months, and her mother works at a Tours and Travels agency in Navi Mumbai.”
Inspector Naikwadi said, “I requested the accused SUV driver Omkar More’s (26) father, Vijay More, a trader at APMC Market, to monetarily help to foot the bills for Ananya’s surgery. He has taken details from the hospital’s billing department and has assured to provide financial aid for Ananya’s surgery. On humanitarian grounds, the generous citizens are hereby requested to lend a helping hand by contributing to pay the hospital bill for medical expenses to be incurred for Ananya’s surgery.”
When contacted at Apollo Hospital’s administration department about Ananya’s health status, the staff said,”The patient Ananya Pednekar is in the ICU. She is undergoing treatment by Dr Abhijit Bagade, the Chief Paediatric Intensivist. As per the hospital policy, the patient’s medical details cannot be revealed.”
