Para-shuttlers Thulasimathi Murugesan, Manisha Ramadass claim silver and bronze medals at Paralympics – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Indian para-shuttlers, Thulasimathi Murugesan and Manisha Ramadass, achieved a historic feat at the Paris Paralympics on Monday, securing silver and bronze medals respectively in the women’s singles SU5 category.
This marks the first instance of India winning multiple medals in badminton at a single Paralympic Games.
Top-seeded Thulasimathi, aged 22, delivered a commendable performance in the final against defending champion Yang Qiuxia of China.Despite a spirited effort, she was ultimately defeated 17-21, 10-21.
Simultaneously, on an adjacent court, second seed Manisha Ramadass secured the bronze medal with a decisive victory over third seed Cathrine Rosengren of Denmark. Manisha dominated the match, winning 21-12, 21-8.
The SU5 classification in Paralympic badminton encompasses athletes with impairments affecting their upper limbs, impacting either their playing or non-playing hand.
These two medals add to India’s growing Paralympic badminton success, following Nitesh Kumar’s historic gold medal win in the men’s singles SL3 category earlier in the Games.
This achievement signifies the rising prominence of Indian para-badminton on the global stage and highlights the athletes’ dedication and skill.
