NEW DELHI: Avani Lekhara clinched her second successive Paralympic Games gold medal in the women’s 10m air rifle (SH1) event on Friday, while fellow Indian athlete Mona Agarwal secured a bronze. The event took place three years after Avani’s first gold at the Tokyo Paralympics.
Avani, 22, achieved a remarkable score of 249.7, breaking her previous record of 249.6 set in Tokyo.Mona Agarwal, who began her shooting career in 2022, earned a bronze medal with a score of 228.7.
Avani’s journey is particularly inspirational as she has been wheelchair-bound since a car accident left her paralyzed below the waist at the age of 11.
