BHOPAL: A pregnant woman was reportedly forced to clean her husband’s blood-stained bed after he succumbed to injuries sustained during a brutal attack on his family in Dindori district, Madhya Pradesh.
Three family members—a man and his two sons—were hacked to death by a group of 25 people following a long-standing land dispute in the usually peaceful Lalpur Sani village on Thursday evening.
The deceased were identified as Dharam Singh Marawi, 65, and his sons Raghuraj Marawi, 40, and Shivraj Marawi, 40, who were reportedly murdered by their relatives. Shivraj died shortly after being taken to the Gardasari health centre for treatment.
A video surfaced on Friday showing Shivraj’s wife, Roshni, who is five months pregnant, being made to clean the bloodied bed immediately after her husband’s death.
The hospital staff were issued a show-cause notice after the video went viral.
However, Dr. Chandrashekhar Tekam of the health centre told the media that Roshni collected blood-soaked cloth pieces in an attempt to gather evidence and was not explicitly instructed to clean the bed.
The attack occurred around 4.30pm on Thursday when the victims, along with Ramraj Marawi—the sole surviving family member—went to confront relatives who were harvesting paddy on their land. The field, located about 300 meters from their home, had been awarded to them through a court ruling in 2018.
As they approached the field, a mob of 20-25 assailants, armed with sticks, rods, axes, and sickles, attacked them.
The victims were beaten and pursued for nearly an hour. Ramraj, who sustained serious injuries, managed to escape and call for help. The attackers, identified as Ghanshyam Marawi, Kanwal Singh Marawi, Patiram Marawi, and Kartik Marawi, are relatives of the victims. Three others—Son Singh, Sarwan, and Jahar Singh—remain absconding.
Local police have arrested the four identified suspects and are actively searching for the remaining three. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including murder.
The condition of the third son remains critical, and he is currently undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
