“We were upfront about it,” Harry wrote.“I told them that I failed to see how speaking to Oprah was any different from what my family and their staff had done for decades – briefing the press on the sly, planting stories.” He didn’t stop there, calling out King Charles’ 1994 collaboration with Jonathan Dimbleby and even mentioning Camilla’s involvement with editor Geordie Greig, reported the Express.
In what seems like a direct comment on the royal family’s media tactics, Harry added, “The only difference was that Meg and I were upfront about it. We didn’t once hide behind phrases like ‘Palace sources’… We let people see the words coming out of our mouths.” The contrast was clear: Harry and Meghan spoke openly, while the palace, according to Harry, relied on behind-the-scenes strategies.

The Oprah interview itself, which aired in early 2021, came just a year after Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties. During the two-hour special, the couple discussed issues like mental health, racism, and their strained relationship with the Royal Family. Meghan, pregnant with their daughter Lilibet at the time, opened up about her mental health struggles, even revealing that she had experienced suicidal thoughts during her time in the family.
