Prithvi Shaw to Open With Yashasvi Jaiswal in Rohit Sharma Absence in BGT Tests vs Australia?

India vs Australia: India’s regular Test captain Rohit Sharma would be missing the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy game versus Australia. While it is a big setback for the side, who will in such a scenario open with Yashasvi Jaiswal? The options that come to one’s mind straightaway would be Ruturaj Gaikwad and Abhimanyu Easwaran, but former India selector Jatin Paranjpe has backed young Prithvi Shaw . As per Paranjpe, Prithvi’s attacking style would benefit the team and that would compliment Jaiswal well. Paranjpe, to a leading daily, pointed out that Shubman Gill could be another option as a backup opener, but because he is settling in well at No. 3 – the management would not like to tinker with that. But Paranjpe also said that Prithvi needs to prove his worth in the domestic circuit.

‘There’s a Dark Horse Also’

“There’s also a dark horse that nobody is talking about: Prithvi Shaw. This domestic season will be crucial for Shaw,” Paranjpe said.

Rohit might miss the first or second Test match against Australia during the upcoming BGT series due to personal reasons. Although the BCCI has not confirmed the news, reports suggest that Rohit has communicated his situation to the board.

Rohit may miss two matches in Australia series

The Indian team is set to play a five-Test series in Australia, starting on November 22 in Perth, and it’s possible that Rohit will miss the first or second game in Adelaide from December 6-10. However, if his personal issue is resolved before the series begins, he might play all five Tests. Rohit recently played two home Tests against Bangladesh and is scheduled to play a three-Test series against New Zealand starting October 16.
