NEW DELHI: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi on Monday raised the issue of Bangladesh in Lok Sabha, marking the occasion of Victory Day of Bangladesh, which is also a celebration for India, which defeated Pakistani army to liberate the new nation on December 16, 1971, and questioned the removal of the iconic photograph of Pakistan surrender to India from the Army headquarters.
Priyanka Gandhi raised the Bangladesh issue during Zero Hour, paying tribute to the Indian Army and remembered the role of soldiers and martyrs who fought the war of 1971 between India and Pakistan.
The young Gandhi also paid tribute to the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, also her grandmother, who had gone into the war with Pakistan to liberate Bangladesh, on Monday to commemorate the Victory Day or Vijay Diwas.
The new Congress MP pointed out in Lok Saba that the photograph of the Pakistani surrender before India has been removed from the Army headquarters. In her Zero Hour reference, Priyanka Gandhi said, “Today, that picture has been removed from the Army headquarters where the Pakistan Army is surrendering before the Indian Army.”
The government should raise the issue of atrocities on minorities in Bangladesh with the neighbouring country, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi said in Lok Sabha on Monday. In her Zero Hour reference, she sought the government’s support for those who are in pain because of the attacks. “The government should raise the issue of atrocities on minorities, both Hindus and Christians, in Bangladesh. Should discuss this with Bangladesh government and support those who are in pain,” she said.
After Priyanka Gandhi, Trinamool Congress MP Sudip Bandopadhyay also raised the issue of Bangladesh saying with the kind of atrocities going on in Bnagladesh against Hindu minorities, why is the government not saying anything on it in Parliament. “Either Prime Minister or the external affairs minister should make a statement on Bangladesh in the House… people are eager to hear what the government is doing about it,” he said.
Shive Sena MP Naresh Mhashe too raised the issue of attack on Hindus in Bangladesh and wanted the government to tell Parliament, what is being done about it.
