Rain unleashes death & damage in Hyderabad

A person with mental disability was washed away in the torrential rains that drenched Hyderabad on Tuesday. The incident took place in Parsigutta when the victim, living on the sidewalks of the area, fell into the waterlogged road.
A case has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Roads turn rivers

According to the police, the 45-year-old victim Vijay had been struggling with mental health issues for a while.After his family abandoned him, he started living on the streets and sidewalks of Parsigutta, seeking alms. On Tuesday, he was sleeping there when he accidentally slipped and fell on the road. He got washed away due to the force of the flowing water.

Hussainsagar water released
With the city recording 73.4 mm of rain till late evening on Tuesday, the water level in the Hussainsagar rose to 513.63 ft by 5.10 pm – marginally above its full tank level (FTL) of 513.41 ft. Officials had to release 1,600 cusecs of water downstream.
The GHMC commissioner Amrapali Kata instructed officials to remain alert to prevent any untoward incidents. To ensure safety at road repair sites, authorities were directed to install barricades, warning boards, and lighting. She also called for precautionary measures to be taken to avoid accidents around nalas.

Traffic comes to a standstill

She visited various locations to inspect water logging points and advised pedestrians and twowheeler riders to be cautious and urged parents to avoid sending children out.
Lightning strikes apartments
Lightning struck Suk Niwas apartment in Panjagutta Colony, destroying the railing and car shed. It also severed electric wires. Similarly, around 6 am locals of Miyapur reported that a massive lightning bolt had struck near the Miyapur metro depot, sending shockwaves through the area. “It was loud enough to wake up the whole area and ad- joining neighbourhoods. It felt like an earthquake,” said Sai Srikar Vangala, a local.
Wall collapse: Cars damaged
The relentless rains that started around 5 am on Tuesday led to the collapse of a portion of the LB Stadium’s boundary wall. While nobody was injured, some police vehicles parked close to the wall – it’s the compound wall of the former CCS office – suffered damage.
Many vehicles across areas such as Sri Nagar Colony, Panjagutta, Yakutpura, Serilingampally, Secunderabad, Yousufguda, Krishna Nagar, Begumpet, etc were also damaged in the rains. “My car was completely wrecked when a huge branch fell on it. My neighbourhood, Krishna Nagar , is severely waterlogged,” said local Ulhas Deshpande.
