In a respite to controversial head of Dera Sacha Sauda, Gurmeet Ram Rahim, Punjab and Haryana HC has made it clear that Haryana govt is competent to take decisions regarding his release.
HC, however, observed that any application made by the dera chief for temporary release should be considered in accordance with the provisions of Haryana Good Conduct Prisoners (Temporary Release) Act, 2022 by the Haryana govt “without indulging in arbitrariness or favouritism.”
A division bench, comprising Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Anil Kshetarpal, passed these orders while disposing of a plea filed by SGPC seeking directions not to release dera chief on parole or furlough.
