Ready to work with Bangla interim govt: US – Times of India

DHAKA: The US on Thursday expressed its readiness to collaborate with the interim govt in Bangladesh, which it believes will be crucial in fostering long-term peace and political stability in the country. “We understand Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has agreed to lead Bangladesh’s interim govt. We stand ready to work with the interim government,” US state department spokesperson Matthew Miller said in Washington DC.
He emphasised the importance of democratic principles.“As you heard the secretary (Antony Blinken) say yesterday, any decisions that the interim govt makes should respect democratic principles, rule of law, and the will of the Bangladeshi people,” Miller said.
The US also voiced concern over reports of attacks, deaths, and human rights abuses in recent weeks. “We urge all parties to refrain from further violence. We call for full accountability of all perpetrators of violence,” the spokesperson said.
