A Goa-based investor has faced backlash for announcing his decision to relocate to Singapore. A user named Siddhart Singh Gautam took to social media platform X (earlier Twitter) to reveal his decision to move out of India due to high taxes, pollution and political inaction. He cited these factors as key reasons for leaving India in search of a better quality of life, encouraging others with financial means to do the same. His post has sparked a range of negative reactions online, highlighting the complex issues of taxation, environmental concerns, and the impact on individual choices regarding residency in Singapore. Some users also criticised his decision and even questioned his love for the country.

In the X post, Gautam wrote: “I will leave India and permanently shift to Singapore in 2025. Documentation in process. I cannot stand the politicians here. Can’t pay 40% tax and breathe polluted air while nobody takes accountability. My honest suggestion would be that if you have good money, please leave.”
The post has already received nearly 2 million views and thousands of comments. Most users who shared a comment on the post criticised Gautam.
What users said about the post
One user showed his disappointment about the post and wrote: “Requesting you to kindly remove the National Flag from your X handle. Eases off the Doglapan 🙏”
“I will never leave my motherland for the rest of my life. Please leave my beautiful country,” another user added.
A third user noted: “Tata. Bye bye. Never come back, please. Good riddance”
Meanwhile, a fourth user explained: “Lolz. Singapore will tax you even more, just in a different way. The standard of living is so high and it’s impossible to buy property there unless you’re stinking rich (read: top 1% of the expats with only a PR which means minimum 10 million SGD for just one year, for a tiny studio apartment if it’s available — because property tax is insane, forget rentals and finding a landlord who likes you). You’ll still need a PR which means working like a slave in an ironclad dictatorship for 10 years. You have minimal rights there. Buying a car? Forget it (COE is batsh!t). But yeah, if you can excuse the racism and crazy standard of living and a very draconian immigration process, it’s a decent place (the humidity is worse than Chennai in peak summers). You’re better off in Dubai though. If you want to breathe good air, move to a tier II city. Life is about trade-offs. I suppose you have done your homework. Needless, all the best!”
