Last week, the Union ministry of home affairs and the UIDAI had submitted affidavits in Jharkhand High Court claiming infiltrations had taken place in the tribal dominated Santhal Pargana region of Jharkhand, which borders West Bengal, and claimed that the population of tribals had declined by nearly 16 per cent.
The JMM led coalition had claimed it was BJP’s move to stoke communal tensions to reap political dividends during the assembly elections.
Modi, at the BJP’s ‘Parivartan Rally’ in Jamshedpur’s Gopal Maidan on Sunday, said: “The tribal population is declining in Santhal Pargana. The infiltrators are taking over the Panchayati Raj institutions in the area and committing crimes against our daughters. Every Jharkhandi is feeling insecure due to these infiltrations,” Modi said.
He accused the JMM and Congress of standing with Rohingyas and Bangladeshi immigrants and refusing to accept the issue of infiltration. “JMM and Congress want to create vote banks in the name of religion. We must stop this threat right away. The people of Jharkhand must unite and support the BJP,” he added.
In his first visit to Jharkhand since the Lok Sabha elections, Modi called the JMM, Congress and the RJD as enemies of the state. He termed the Congress as the most corrupt political party in the country and the origin of all corruption. “Now, JMM is taking lessons from the Congress school of corruption,” he said.
“While the middle-class toil hard every day to earn and save their money, crores are seized from their MPs and ministers. They did not spare army land here. Now, the people are putting up ‘not for sale’ signs in their lands out of fear,” Modi added.
Claiming that the JMM led government’s days were numbered, the PM claimed that the ouster of former chief minister Champai Soren from the office was an insult which was felt by every poor Jharkhandi. “Sita Soren, despite being a family member, was insulted too,” he added.
The PM, in his first Jharkhand visit since Lok Sabha elections, took a dig at the Soren government over the deaths of excise constable aspirants. “Close to 15 youngsters have died while attempting to get jobs. I pay my tributes to them and offer my condolences to their families. I assure you that once the NDA government is formed here after a few months, we will investigate the deaths and bring all those responsible to justice,” he announced.
