Rohit Sharma moves to second spot in ODI rankings behind Babar Azam | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: India skipper Rohit Sharma on Wednesday moved up a place to second spot in the latest ICC ODI rankings for batters, following a solid performance in the recently concluded ODI series against Sri Lanka.
Despite India losing the series 0-2, Rohit amassed 157 runs with an average of 52.33, including two half-centuries, in the three-match series, which included a tie in the opening game.
Shubman Gill has dropped to third place while Virat Kohli holds steady at No.4 in the rankings.
Babar Azam of Pakistan continues to lead the charts with 824 rating points, followed by Rohit with 765 points.
Shreyas Iyer is the other Indian in the top 20, positioned at 16th, while KL Rahul has fallen one spot and is now 21st.
Left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav remains the highest-ranked Indian bowler at the fourth spot, following behind South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj and Australia’s Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa.
Jasprit Bumrah holds steady at eighth place, while Mohammed Siraj has slipped five places, now sharing the ninth spot with New Zealand’s Trent Boult.
Senior seamer Mohammed Shami, currently recuperating from ankle surgery at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, is ranked 12th.
Washington Sundar, who was India’s highest wicket-taker against Sri Lanka with five wickets in three matches, has climbed 10 places to sit in the 87th spot.
Ravindra Jadeja remains the top-placed Indian in the all-rounders’ section at 16th place, while Hardik Pandya has dropped four places to 26th.
Team India sits at the top of the ODI rankings with 118 rating points, while Australia are second at 116, followed by South Africa with 112 points.
