Rohit Sharma’s BLUNDER That Allowed Rachin Ravindra to Get to a Hundred in Bengaluru’s First Test

India vs New Zealand: After picking up four quick wickets in the first session, India were clawing back in the game but then Rachin Ravindra-Tim Southee controlled proceedings to put the visitors in the box seat again in the ongoing Bengaluru Test. With NZ in trouble, former India cricketer Parthiv Patel reckoned that the pacers should have been brought back into the attack, rather than continuing with Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Parthiv reckons India missed a trick.

‘Siraj was brought back, but it was too late’

“I think the trick was missed. Rachin Ravindra and Tim Southee attacked Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav. India bowlers were in control before that, but the two batters changed everything. Siraj was brought back, but it was too late by then. I think sticking with the spinners didn’t favor India,” Parthiv Patel said on JioCinema.

Another former India cricketer Aakash Chopra was in agreement with Parthiv as he too felt that Mohammed Siraj’s introduction was late.

‘Rohit should have taken a new ball for the pacers’

Aakash Chopra also opined on this blunder. “I feel the same. Rohit should have taken a new ball for the pacers, but Siraj was given the old cherry before lunch. Spinners couldn’t get going against Rachin and Southee, and this is when Rohit should have introduced Siraj or Bumrah. It was not followed, and the result almost put India out of the game,” Aakash Chopra said.

At the time of filing the copy, lunch had been taken on Day 3. Rachin Ravindra is on 106*, while Tim Southee is on 50*. New Zealand have taken a 307-run lead already.
