Russia accuses UK of instigating and taking part in Ukraine’s ‘major provocation’ – Times of India

Russia has accused the United Kingdom of being behind Ukraine‘s “major provocation” and claimed that “Britain participated in all such sorties.”
Ukraine’s military on Tuesday sent a large ground force across its border and into Russia’s Kursk region, in what has become the Western-backed military’s largest cross-border incursion since the Kremlin’s invasion in 2022.
Acknowledging the attack, which had stunned Moscow, a senior Russian politician accused Britain of instigating and taking part in the operation, according to the Daily Mail.
In an apparent bid to deflect blame, Adalbi Shkhagoshev, a member of the State Duma Committee told Russian media outlets, “Britain participated in all such sorties. English was heard.”
Russia accused Ukraine of launching a “major provocation” and “firing indiscriminately” at civilian buildings and residences.
Russia’s Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov said the “advance” into the Kursk region had been stopped, with Russian forces “continuing to destroy the adversary in areas directly adjacent to the Russian-Ukrainian border”.
Gerasimov said Ukrainian forces aimed to take over the area around the town of Sudzha, and that Russia had already killed 100 men and injured another 215.
It also may be intended to divert Russian troops from other locations along the front, where Ukraine’s military has steadily lost ground in recent months. Analysts suggested Kyiv could be trying to gain leverage for any future negotiations with the Kremlin.
The recent offensive into Russian territory seems to be carried out by a substantial force of several thousand Ukrainian soldiers, including members of elite assault units. These troops are equipped with vehicles and tanks provided by the United States and Germany. According to Russian officials and pro-war military bloggers, the Ukrainian forces entered Russia on Tuesday from the Sumy region in northeastern Ukraine, reported Washington Post.
On Thursday, the Biden administration expressed its approval of the Ukrainian operation, stating that it aligns with the policy change announced in May, which permits Ukrainian commanders to target Russian forces inside Russia if they are preparing to attack Ukraine. “As they see attacks coming across the border, they have to be able to have the capabilities to respond,” Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said during a press briefing.
