Russian army captures village in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region – Times of India

Russia announced on Saturday that its forces have captured the village of Kalynove in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, marking a new advance in the ongoing conflict. The Russian Defence Ministry stated that troops had “liberated the village of Kalynove,” located southeast of Pokrovsk, a strategic logistics hub held by Ukrainian forces.
The village, which had a population of around 200 people according to the 2001 Ukrainian census, lies in a critical area as Russia continues its offensive in Ukraine’s industrial Donbas region.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, Russian artillery shelling in the town of Kostyantynivka, also in the Donetsk region, resulted in the deaths of three people and left three others wounded. The town’s governor, Vadym Filashkin, confirmed the casualties in a Telegram post, reporting that a multi-storey building, an administrative structure, and a shop were damaged by the strikes. The victims were men aged between 24 and 69.
Kostyantynivka, a former industrial town with a pre-war population of around 70,000, has been heavily targeted as the frontline edges closer during Russia’s 30-month invasion. Frequent missile and artillery attacks have prompted a mass evacuation, with authorities in August mandating the evacuation of families with children due to the escalating threat from Russian advances.
