SC refuses to consider plea against govt decision to cancel UGC-NET exam | India News – Times of India

The Supreme Court on Monday declined to consider the plea challenging the government’s decision to cancel the UGC-NET examination after alleged question paper leakage as entertaining this will create chaos and uncertainty, saying that the students appearing for the exam must have some kind of “certainty now”.
The bench, consisting of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, stated that the government is re-conducting the exam on August 21, PTI reported.
“Entertaining the plea at the present stage would only add to uncertainty and add to utter chaos,” the CJI remarked, adding that the Central government must be “doubly cautious after the NEET-UG fiasco and thus it was cancelled. Let this process go on now”.
Previously, the top court had rejected a PIL on the matter, noting that it was submitted by a lawyer rather than the aggrieved candidates themselves. The CJI had told the lawyer, “Why are you (lawyer) coming? Let the students come here themselves,” and while dismissing the PIL, the court clarified that it was not expressing any opinion on the merits of the case.
The earlier petition was also filed in opposition to the decision made by the Union education ministry and the National Testing Agency to cancel the UGC-NET exam following information that its integrity may have been compromised. On June 19, the ministry had ordered the cancellation of the UGC-NET exam and referred the matter to the CBI for investigation.
