Subhash Atul’s mother Anju Devi Modi tearfully appealed for justice before flying back to Patna with her son’s body. “Mere bachhe ko insaaf dijiye… bas aur kuch nahi chahiye (Give justice to my child. We don’t want anything else),” she said on Wednesday in Bengaluru. His parents, Pawan Modi and Anju, expressed disillusionment with the judicial system. “He travelled between Jaunpur court and Bengaluru at least 40 times. When one case ended, another began,” Pawan said. “My wife’s health deteriorated due to stress. Atul suffered deeply.” Atul’s brother Bikas Kumar questioned the lack of arrests. “When a woman blames a man for her suicide, he’s arrested immediately. Why isn’t the same being done here?” he said. The death has sparked discussions on the need for legal reforms to address misuse of laws in matrimonial disputes and ensure mental health support for men entangled in such cases.
