According to news agency PTI, the Buldhana legislator was heard saying “If any Congress dog tries to enter my programme, I will bury them then and there”.
Sanjay Gaikwad, an MLA of Shiv Sena which is an ally of BJP, was in the headlines earlier this week for offering a bounty of Rs 11 lakh to anyone who “chopped off” Rahul Gandhi’s tongue for his remarks about “scrapping the quota system”. However, the BJP Maharashtra chief opted to distance himself and not endorse the ally’s remarks.
“I will not support or endorse Gaikwad’s comments. However, we cannot forget that the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had opposed reservations saying it would affect the progress,” BJP’s Maha chief Chandrashekar Bawankule, said immediately after the remark created a political storm. Subsequently , the police on Monday night registered a case against him over the remark about the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
There have also been other statements by BJP-NDA leaders against Rahul Gandhi, Congress, which have not fallen well with the grand old party. Recently, Union minister Ravneet Singh Bittu called Rahul Gandhi “number one terrorist” and “biggest enemy of India”. BJP leader Tarvinder Singh Marvah was also recorded purportedly saying, “Rahul Gandhi baaz aaja nahi toh aane wale time mein tera bhi wohi haal hoga jo teri dadi ka haal hua (Rahul Gandhi, refrain from such things, otherwise in the coming time, you will also suffer the same fate as your grandmother)”.
Meanwhile, the Congress party and its chief who has deemed these comments as “violent” recently wrote about the recent statements made against Rahul Gandhi by Union minister Ravneet Singh Bittu, BJP leader Tarvinder Singh Marvah and Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad.
In the letter Kharge said: “You would be aware that a series of highly objectionable, violent and rude statements are being made against the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Shri Rahul Gandhi.” Terming the “violent language” used by the leaders of BJP and its alliance parties, Kharge said the trend is “dangerous for the future”.
“The world is shocked that the Minister of State for Railways in the Central Government, a minister from BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh, is calling the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha “number one terrorist”. An MLA from an alliance party in your government in Maharashtra is announcing a reward of Rs 11 lakh to the person who “cuts off the tongue” of the Leader of the Opposition. A BJP leader and former MLA in Delhi is threatening to make his “fate like Dadi”,” he wrote.
During his US trip, Rahul Gandhi said the Congress Party would think of scrapping reservations when India is a fair place, which is not the case right now. “We will think of scrapping reservations when India is a fair place. And India is not a fair place,” the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi told students in response to a question on reservation and how long it would continue.
“The problem is that 90% of India is not able to play. Go through the list of every single business leader in India. I’ve done it. Show me the tribal name. Show me the Dalit name. Show me the OBC name. Out of the top 200, I think there’s one OBC. They’re 50% of India. But we’re not treating the symptom,” he said.
